Oxford Stories Longform is a student-produced news website that covers Oxford, Lafayette County and North Mississippi for students in Journalism 472, a features and magazine writing class. It is a sister site to OxfordStories.net, a website for some Journalism 271 multimedia news reporting classes at the University of Mississippi.
This is a workshop course in longform writing, also known as narrative writing, features writing, and sometimes, creative nonfiction. This includes a variety of stories, from food and fashion; to arts, entertainment, religion, social justice and in-depth investigative stories.
Think of Journalism 472 as a mix of journalism and creative writing. Students won’t be writing fiction. They’ll be asked to stick with the facts with everything they do, but we’ll experiment with writing in this class – abandoning the inverted pyramid and focusing on creativity.
